Under the same Sky - Duo Agostino
When Argentinean guitarist Omar Cyrulink came to visit us in 1998 we were sitting outside on a clear blue summer's day. Our young daughter Kate looked up and asked Omar "Do you have the same sky as us?"
This thought re-emerged as we put together the collection of music that makes up this album. The musical concepts and ideas come from various parts of the globe yet we share a commonality, playing and enjoying this music "under the same sky". It's a concept I often think about when we share experiences with musicians from various places around the world. The linking Thread that connects us is our passion for playing music on the guitar.
So this album brings together music from Australia, Argentina, Ireland, Italy, Cuba.
We hope you enjoy listening to this music as much as we enjoy playing it. Janet Agostino.
The title of the CD is a reflection of our feelings about the whole idea of performance; the "madness" of it all and the sheer "joy" that it brings us and, hopefully our audience. The idea evolved gradually and in a way, took on a life of its own. Starting point; three Australian guitarists living in Sydney, performing Australian music on Australian made instruments.
The music itself is as eclectic as our city, encompassing the ecstasies of Walt Whitman, all the fun of Masque (complete with dancing frogs) and then a guided tour through hell. Add to this a little Rain and some Lunar imagery and there you have it. All the works (with the exception of Phillip's Suite of Six Trios) have been written specially for the Trio.
